Special Educational Needs

We aim to include all children in our pre-school. Miss Claire Hackett is our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (Senco). She works closely with parents and keyworkers to ensure individual needs are met. She will liaise with the Inclusion partner and outside agencies if a child needs particular support.

Stanway Pre-school’s Local Offer for Children with Special Educational Needs.

At Stanway preschool we have a team of dedicated and professional staff members who are all qualified and skilled in meeting the needs and strengths of all the children in the setting through high quality Observations, Assessments and Planning.

Every child who attends Stanway Pre-school has a key worker who will develop trusting and sensitive relationships with the child and the child’s family. The sharing of information about each child is of paramount importance so that each child’s individual strengths and needs can be supported. The unity of key workers and parent/carers working together empowers every child on the way to reaching their full potential.

What extra support does my child receive if they have been noticed as having a Special educational need (SEN) at Stanway Pre-school?

  • Our Special Educational needs Co-ordinator (Senco), Claire Hackett, supports key workers with additional strategies in meeting the Childs needs through ongoing observations, assessments and activity Planning with reviews done on regular intervals through implementation of a One Plan with parents/Carers to ensure progression for the child’s Learning.

  • We value Close working partnerships with Parents/Carers so that any changes in the child’s interests can help inform daily planning. Our child centred planning also contributes to and supports the sharing of strategies and resources for the child's continuity of learning.

  • All staff members have a range of skills working with children with SEN through past experience as well as a continuum of ongoing training courses which support each keyworkers ability to meet every Child’s individual SEN needs. Staff skills are regularly shared and reviewed so that up to date and current knowledge is embedded in the teaching methods of all the staff at Stanway Pre-school.

  • Makaton signing, British sign language, Photo visuals, One to One time with an adult, timetable visuals, First, next and then boards, Show and tell, Use of a sand timer to support sharing, Adults as positive role models to support difficulties with the development of language as well as the development of play and support for all children’s transition to school are just a few examples of the strategies which we use to support children with SEN at Stanway Pre-school.

  • We are situated within a Children’s centre which has easy access by all and offers a lot of benefits to us as a setting, because many of the other professionals we work alongside are often on our door step, offering a wealth of knowledge, support and guidance helping us to support our children with SEN.

  • We work closely with other professionals such as Health Visitors, inclusion partners, Speech and Language Therapists, Community key workers, Specialist teachers and Paediatricians as well as many more. Other Professionals offer additional strategies and resources to which are above and beyond those we use on a daily basis so that children with SEN are adequately catered for in an inclusive pre-school environment. Every child benefits from an inclusive environment as having access to SEN resources supports all children’s knowledge of others needs.
