What happens in school?

Framework

We follow the current government guidelines. Our routine is based on learning through play – The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) for children from birth to 5 years old.

The EYFS focuses on four themes, with each theme having a principle:

A unique child: Every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured

Positive relationships: Children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/ or a key person

Enabling environments: The environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children’s development and learning

Learning and developing: Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates and all areas of Learning and Development are equally important and inter-connected

Within the Learning and developing section, the focus is upon 7 areas:

      1. Personal, social and emotional development

      2. Communication and language

      3. Physical development

      4. Literacy

      5. Maths

      6. Understanding the world

      7. Expressive arts and design

Routine and activities

Routines are one way to help children gain a sense of security. The activities provided help children to gain from the social experiences of being part of a group. They help each child to feel that he or she is a valued member of the pre-school, and they provide children with opportunities to learn and help them to value learning whilst having fun.

Snack time

We offer the children a snack and a drink of water or milk during the session. Children are encouraged to develop healthy eating habits and good manners during snack time. We follow a healthy snack rota which gives the children a variety of snacks to enjoy, such as fresh fruit, dried fruit, raw vegetables, cheese, yoghurt, and different types of bread, crackers and bread sticks.

We operate a rolling snack, where the children, overseen by a member of staff can help themselves to the day’s snack and drink when they are ready.

It is the parent/carer’s responsibility to make sure that the pre-school are made aware of any food allergies your child has.

We ask for a contribution of 35p per session towards the cost of snack, you are welcome to provide your own snack for your child.

Fresh drinking water is available throughout the session for the children to help themselves.
