Children’s welfare

Collection of children at the end of the session

It is important that you keep us up-to-date with any changes to telephone and contact details. We may need to contact you if your child is ill, or to find out what has happened if you are late collecting your child at the end of a session.

On occasions when the parent/ carers are unable to collect a child, we ask you to record the name of the authorised person on our signing in register. We agree with parents how to verify the person collecting the child by asking them to confirm the pre-school’s password of the day.

If we are unable to contact you, or your designated emergency contact, we will follow the pre-school’s ‘non-collection of children policy.’

Children’s health and medication

It is very important that you tell us if there are any medical issues with your child. If a child is unwell he or she should be kept at home. After a bout of sickness, diarrhoea or any other contagious virus, parents/ carers must wait until forty eight hours have passed since the last attack before sending their child to pre-school.

If a child is unwell during the session we will contact parents and we expect them to arrange for the child to be collected and taken home.

We have first aid trained staff on hand, and can administer medication such as asthma inhalers etc when necessary, and where consent has been obtained. In these situations you will need to complete a care plan so we know how best to care for your child.

Head Lice

Unfortunately, head lice can be a problem for young children in a school environment. It is the responsibility of parents to check their children’s hair at least weekly using conditioner and a nit comb. If this is done regularly no infestation will occur, and no special treatment will be necessary.

Safeguarding

Our setting will work with children, parents and the community to ensure the rights and safety of children and to give them the very best start in life. Our safeguarding policy is based on the three key commitments of the Pre-school Learning Alliance Safeguarding Children Policy.
